1745 Rockland Ave
Following a public hearing Council approved a rezoning with development permit at 1745 Rockland Avenue to allow three single family homes on a panhandle lot.
Rezoning Application for 851 Johnson and 950 Yates
Following a combined public hearing for rezoning to allow for the retail sales of cannabis at both 851 Johnson and 950 Yates, Council voted to approve the application at 851 Johnson and decline 950 Yates.
The Mayor will write to the CRD, the Premier and the Minister responsible and ask the Province to take a more active role in deer management, including public education, community surveys and deer inventories.
In addition staff will seek funding to work with the Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society to do appropriate public education, a community survey and a population count and to have staff do an inventory of impacts. Staff will also review current regulations for fencing on private property.
We Speak Translate Project
Council and staff will begin training in the We Speak Translate Project, a unique collaboration between the City, Inter-Cultural Association and Google, using the Google Translate app to assist citizens in their first language.
Inclusive Housing and Community Amenity Policy
The City will be exploring replacing the Density Bonus Policy with an Inclusive Housing and Community Amenity Policy to facilitate the provision of non-market housing units within developments seeking density beyond existing legal entitlements.
Johnson Street Bridge Project Update
The Johnson Street Bridge quarterly update was presented to Council. The report included updates on the ongoing steel fabrication in China, work onsite in Victoria and the status of the first shipment of steel that has left China on a ship and is expected to arrive in Victoria in late August. The anticipated opening date for the new bridge to vehicle traffic is March 2018.
1002 Vancouver Street
A rezoning application for 1002 Vancouver Street has been moved forward to public hearing. The application would allow for conversion of the existing building into a multiple dwelling consisting of approximately 79 supportive housing units and 15 affordable rental units. This application will be considered concurrently with heritage designation and development variance permit for parking. Before this application will be considered at a public hearing Council has requested answers to a series of questions related to the operation of the facility. The public hearing is tentatively scheduled for September 21, pending receipt of those answers and subject to legal documents with criteria outlined in the report found here: Committee of the Whole agenda
