Community Planning Division

The Community Planning Division works to proactively respond to long range planning challenges and opportunities and provide direction for decision making through:

  • The Official Community Plan which is a comprehensive 30 year plan to guide growth and change in the City to 2041
  • Downtown plans and policies, including the Downtown Core Area Plan
  • Local Area Plans, including neighbourhood plans, that build on the OCP through providing more detailed guidance in smaller areas of the City
  • The Heritage Program which works towards conserving and enhancing heritage resources throughout the City
  • A range of other initiatives that respond to emerging issues and policy challenges

The Community Planning Division also:

  • provides professional analysis, advice and recommendations related to planning for the consideration of the Mayor and Council as well as Council's committees;
  • works collaboratively with communities, businesses, government agencies, and other stakeholders to further the City's planning initiatives;
  • serves all interested in the community, including customers, through our program, policy, regulatory and information services.
