Left: Thomas Trounce’s home “Tregew” at 63 Menzies (later 436 Michigan Street). Trounce was an architect and builder who also served on Victoria City Council from 1875-1877. The house was built by Trounce in 1861, and he lived there until his death in 1900. At the time of its demolition in 1967, the house had been turned into apartments (CVA image M05366). Right: “Tregew” fireplace, taken in 1953. In the 1950s Assistant Provincial Archivist Madge Hamilton arranged to have photos taken of prominant residential buildings in the City. Many of these photographs capture the exterior and interior of homes that no longer exist (CVA image M02695).
