The community is invited to create book spine poems by attending Book Spine Poetry. By stacking three book spines, one can create a unique poem. Participants will make book spine poetry by stacking library books to create a unique poem. City of Victoria Poet Laureate Yvonne Blomer, Youth Poet Laureate Maita Cienska and a guest poet will be on hand for inspiration. This free event is a drop-in program. 

 

Poet Bios

Yvonne Blomer is the City of Victoria’s poet laureate. For two years she lived in Japan and out of that experience her first book of poems, a broken mirror, fallen leaf was published in 2006 and shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Her most recent collection is As if a Raven and this spring Sugar Ride: Cycling from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur will be released with Palimpsest Press.

 

 

Maita Cienska is Victoria’s 2017 Youth Poet Laureate. Now 19 years old, she has been composing and writing ever since middle school dramas tore from her pre teen soul. In the past couple of years she has embarked on a self journey through poetry and music, releasing an album and competing nationally in poetry slams. Maita writes for parts of us we don't know how to confront.
