Mayfair Mall Parking Lot (Corner of Blanshard and Finlayson)

Want to know what an 8.0 magnitude earthquake feels like? Come by Mayfair Mall on Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and ride the Shake Zone Earthquake Simulator! Shake Zone will be set up in the parking lot near the corner of Blanshard and Finlayson.

Shake Zone seats eight and is free to ride. The simulation lasts approximately 25 seconds and riders will experience one g of motion. This is the g-force that can occur during a 6.0 – 9.0 magnitude. A 25-second duration is common with an 7.75 magnitude earthquake.

Greater Victoria has a one in three probability of experiencing a major earthquake in the next 50 years. It's the responsibility of each of us to be prepared.

The Victoria Fire Department’s Emergency Management team will have a booth stationed on site for the public to learn more on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from an earthquake or tsunami.

The Shake Zone Mobile Earthquake Simulator is touring British Columbia and will be visiting the Capital Region from Sunday, May 15 to Sunday, May 22, 2016 (except for May 17). View the Shake Zone Island Tour 2016 poster [PDF - 882 KB].
