The active transportation network is planned to be completed by the year 2022 and will include 32 kilometres of all ages and abilities active transportation infrastructure to connect neighbourhood to the downtown and surrounding municipalities.
To ensure that the investments in active transportation are aimed at improving safety and addressing network gaps, the downtown has been prioritized as the first phase of the project to encourage more people to walk, bike and/or take transit in Victoria. Following the implementation of phase 1 of the network, the goal of the second phase will be to reach out into the neighbourhoods surrounding downtown and connect to the surrounding municipalities. The third phase of the project will be to complete the priority network and develop connections to the various neighbourhood villages within the City.
Ongoing consultation and engagement will provide residents and stakeholders many opportunities for providing insights, ideas and recommendations through local area planning and iterative corridor design consultation. The maps below illustrate the sequencing that has been developed to complete the network by 2022.
