Public Works Holiday Food Drive Kicks off Season of Giving

Over the past 12 years, the City of Victoria Public Works Food Drive has collected more than $350,000 worth of food for the Mustard Seed Food Bank. Last year, Victoria residents donated over 14,400 pounds of non-perishable food items with an approximate value of $36,000.

Victoria residents can participate by placing non-perishable food items in bags labelled “Food Drive” and setting them next to their garbage can on collection day between Monday, December 3 and Friday, December 7. The City of Victoria will then deliver all donations to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.

Here is the garbage and Food Drive collection schedule for this week:
• Blue Route: Monday, December 3
• Green Route: Tuesday, December 4
• Orange Route: Wednesday, December 5
• Yellow Route: Thursday, December 6
• Pink Route: Friday, December 7

Residents can look up their garbage collection route online at www.victoria.ca/garbagecollection.

Note: If you missed your Food Drive collection pick up day, and would like a bag of donated food to be picked up between December 10 and December 14, on your next collection day, please call 250.361.0417.

Special thanks to CUPE Local 50 for making the annual food drive possible.
