Now is the Time to Donate to the Holiday Food Drive

Starting  on Monday, City of Victoria Public Works crews will be collecting donated food items and grocery store gift cards from Victoria households to support the Mustard Seed Food Bank.  The City's 14th annual Holiday Food Drive will occur between December 2 –13.  Residents are asked to place their donations by their Green Bin on their Kitchen Scraps and Garbage collection day.

New this year, residents can attach a grocery store gift card to their Green Bin.  Gift cards allow the food bank to purchase exactly what they need and can be easily collected with our new trucks that have limited storage space. City staff will continue to collect bags of non-perishable food items labeled “Food Drive”, but gift cards are the best option.

Last year Victoria residents donated over 14,302 pounds of food items, with an approximate value of $35,755.  Over the past 13 years over 151,000 pounds of food has been donated to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.

Residents can look up their next collection day here.

Special thanks to CUPE Local 50 for making the annual food drive possible.
