Water Main Work Downtown May Cause Temporary Water Discolouration

Residents and businesses in the downtown area are advised that they may experience some temporary water discolouration on Tuesday, October 22 between 8 p.m. and midnight. Crews will be working on a water main on Johnson Street at Wharf Street Tuesday evening which may result in some sediment in the water.

The water is safe to drink. If you experience discoloured water, run cold water from the tap until the water runs clear.

The 100-year-old water, sewer and storm drain mains in the area of Wharf and Store Streets are being replaced this year in advance of new road alignments that will be built for the new Johnson Street Bridge. The new roads will be located north of the existing road. Crews will be working in the area until December 2013. Some traffic delays can be expected while work is underway.
