Optimization Review of the Victoria Conference Centre

In 2013, Criterion Communications was retained by the City to conduct an Optimization Review on the VCC. The objectives for the review were to:
- Provide an overview of changes in industry conditions impacting conference/convention centre performance;
- Compare VCC structure and performance with similar centre in order to determine if there were any significant anomalies relative to comparable/competing facilities;
- Identify any unique issues and challenges related to the operation of the VCC that should be taken into account when assessing performance, and
- Recommend actions to address any evident operating/performance issues and to potentially enhance future performance.
The review included interviews with local business, tourism and hospitality representatives as well as research reviews of Canadian and International Convention Centre Annual Surveys and benchmarking as well as applicable industry literature. The review findings has provided third party convention centre specific insight for the VCC and the destination on how the VCC with business partners can work more effectively to bring additional conference business to Victoria. Council rose and reported on the findings on April 10, 2014.
Further information will be considered by Council in May with regard to specific recommendations related to the VCC. Information in this portion of the report is not currently available for release related to protection of privacy legislation.Go to Top
