Provide Feedback on Proposed Changes to the Building Bylaw

The City of Victoria’s Building Bylaw sets the standards and requirements for buildings on private property. It is used to guide building permits, the role of the building inspectors, registered professionals and owners, and permitting requirements.

As the City's current Building Bylaw was last updated in 1993, the City is currently proposing changes to bring the bylaw up to date and line with the current BC Building Code. The proposed changes are also aimed to clarify the roles and responsibilities of those involved in the building permit process and improve customer service by improving turnaround times for building permit applicants. The proposed bylaw follows examples set by the Municipal Insurance Association of BC and other municipalities.

The City of Victoria is collecting feedback from organizations and individuals who may be impacted by changes to the bylaw from now until Monday, January 19. Feedback received will help inform the updated Building Bylaw, which will be presented to Council in 2015.

Visit the Building Bylaw page for more information and to complete the survey.
