Quadra and Tolmie Intersection to Close for Paving

On Saturday and Sunday, the intersection of Quadra Street and Tolmie Avenue will be closed and detours will be in effect as crews complete the paving of the intersection.

Between Monday, September 22 and Tuesday, September 30 road work will take place on Tolmie Avenue, between Glasgow Street and Fifth Street.  Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid delays.

Repaving is the final phase of infrastructure upgrades and accessibility improvement along Tolmie Avenue. Improvements include the replacement of an aging water main with a new water main for improved water quality and seismic capability. Underground sewer and storm water pipes have also been repaired with new catch basins to improve drainage. Sidewalks and wheelchair ramps have also been upgraded at the intersections to improve accessibility for pedestrians.

The capital investment for this project is $393,000. In 2014, the City of Victoria will invest $14.3 million in upgrading water, sewer and storm water systems. As much of the City’s underground infrastructure was installed prior to 1920 when Victoria was first established, the City of Victoria is making significant investments to ensure high water quality, proper drainage and environmental protection.

The City of Victoria’s street network plays a vital role serving local and regional residents, businesses and the tourism industry.  Comprised of over 250 kilometres of downtown, arterial, collector and residential roads, it forms the backbone of the urban transportation network.
