10th Annual Tree Appreciation Day is Sunday, November 8

On Sunday, November 8, the City of Victoria will host the 10th annual Tree Appreciation Day at two adjacent locations on Shelbourne Street in the Fernwood neighbourhood:

10  – 10:30 a.m. at Shelbourne Green on the corner of Shelbourne and Denman Streets
10:30 a.m. – noon at 2020 Shelbourne Street adjacent to Pembroke Street

The community is invited to bring their gloves and join City staff in the planting of new fruit trees and blueberry bushes. The event will include demonstrations on tree pruning and Winter Moth banding, a children’s colouring contest, and a draw for four blueberry bushes and two fig trees donated by Le Coteau Nursery. Parks arborists will be available to answer questions on topics such as tree care and disease prevention.

Parking is available on adjacent streets. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather as the event will take place rain or shine.

Tree Appreciation Day is an annual event that recognizes the importance of trees in the urban environment.   The City’s Urban Forest Master Plan encourages opportunities for community members to participate in tree plantings. Since 2006, this event has brought the community together to plant more than 400 trees and shrubs in City parks.
