Chinese New Year

This week, lanterns have been hung in the foyer to celebrate Chinese New Year celebrations, which will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Chinatown on Sunday, February 22. Chinese New Year is celebrated on a lunar calendar and so the date changes from year to year. This year, the Year of the Sheep (also known as Goat or Ram), began on Thursday, February 19. New Year is celebrated for 15 days, until the full moon.

To support the celebration, the City installs additional lanterns in Chinatown and prints interpretive cards for the festivities.
