New Date for Rockland Avenue Greenway Paint- In

The Rockland Avenue Greenway Paint-In has been rescheduled from Thursday, September 24 to the new date of Tuesday, September 29, due to rain in the forecast.

Event Details

Victoria residents are invited to help paint a bright, community mosaic using three shades of green along a portion of the 900 block of the Rockland Avenue Greenway. In addition to this mosaic, new marked bike lanes, new welcoming signs and more seating will be introduced as short term improvements to this area.

What:  Rockland Avenue Greenway Paint-In
Why:   Help paint a colourful community mosaic to enhance this community space
Where:  900 Block of Rockland Avenue, between Christ Church Cathedral and Pioneer Square
When: Tuesday, September 29, 2:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Who: Everyone’s welcome. Bring your family, friends and neighbours!

Paint-In participants are invited to help roll colours onto a template on the road.  The painted area will be a new inviting space for pedestrians.  All painting materials will be supplied.

In addition to bringing energy to paint, residents are also encouraged to bring their lawn chairs for a ‘chair bombing’ to help inform where new seating will be placed.  Ideas about other activities that residents would like to see designed into the space will also be collected by The Greater Victoria Placemaking Society.  These ideas will inform future improvements.

In 2014, the City hosted a one-year pilot of a bike and pedestrian friendly greenway along the 900 block of Rockland Avenue.  The community supported this concept and shared ideas for future improvements. These short term improvements to make this space more inviting will take place this fall.
