Public Works Holiday Food Drive Starts This Week

Starting next week, City of Victoria Public Works crews will be collecting donations from Victoria households to support the Mustard Seed Food Bank. The City’s 16th annual Holiday Food Drive will occur between Monday November 30 and Friday December 11.

The holidays are a time of year that people depend on food banks the most, so residents can share their generosity by writing a cheque to the Mustard Seed and attaching it to their Green Bin.  These donations allow the food bank to buy $2 worth of food for every $1 donated and can be easily collected with our trucks that have limited storage space. Crews will also continue to collect bags of non-perishable food items labeled “Food Drive” that can be left beside green bins.

Last year Victoria residents donated nearly 3000 pounds (1,360 kg) of food items and over the past 15 years this program has donated over 160,000 pounds (72,574 kg) of food to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
