Things You Need to Know About Symphony Splash

Victoria Symphony Splash is an annual musical extravaganza that takes place on a floating stage in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. The event is one of North America’s largest annual outdoor concerts, drawing close to 40,000 Victoria residents and visitors from around the world. Given its popularity, here are some things you need to know to make sure you have a safe and splashing good time:

Event details:

  • Victoria Symphony Splash takes place Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 1 p.m.  - 10 p.m. in Victoria’s Inner Harbour.
  • The event begins at 1 p.m. with children’s activities in the Splash Family Zone. The opening act The Midnights will commence at 4 p.m. Tania Miller, the Victoria Symphony, and the 2015 Young Soloists Rebecca Bracewell on accordion and Ben Parker on trumpet will be featured at 7:30 p.m. The grand finale at 9:30 p.m. will feature the 1812 Overture, accompanied by bells, cannons and fireworks.

Getting to the event:

  • The event can be viewed by land or sea. Kayakers and canoeists can moor near the floating stage.
  • A passenger drop-off zone will be available on Government Street, located across the road from the Fairmont Empress Hotel on Sunday, August 2 from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • There will be a special viewing area for people people with disabilities and their families and friends on the northwest corner of the Empress lawns.
  • To maintain pedestrian access along walkways on days leading up to the event, lawn chairs are not to be set up on the Upper or Lower Causeways until Sunday, August 2 at 8 a.m.

Road closures:

  • On Sunday the north lane of Belleville, between Government and Menzies, will close at 5 a.m. At 12:00 p.m., both lanes on Belleville Street between Menzies and Government Streets will close to accommodate event set up. By 2 p.m., the following roads will be closed: Government Street from Superior to Humboldt; Belleville Street from Menzies to Douglas; and Wharf Street from Government to Broughton.

Donations:

  • Everyone who donates $5 or more will receive a Splash button which they can wear proudly to show their support for the event. Watch for volunteers roaming the event with buttons.
