Victoria Day Holiday Hours and Parking

On Monday, May 23, 2016, City of Victoria facilities will be observing the holiday schedule below for Victoria Day.

Police, fire and those who provide emergency streets and utility services are available 24/7.

Closed Monday, May 23:

Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre
Beacon Hill Park Maintenance Yard
Public Works Yard
Victoria Conference Centre and Administration Office

Kitchen Scraps and Garbage Collection
Kitchen scraps and garbage collection will not occur on Monday, May 23, 2016. You can view your kitchen scraps and garbage collection schedule here.

Garden Waste Drop-Off
City of Victoria residents can drop off their garden waste, year-round at the Public Works Yard at 417 Garbally Road, Saturdays from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Please bring a City of Victoria utility bill or a driver's licence which shows residence at a property that has kitchen scraps and garbage service. This service is not for commercial use. The garden waste drop-off area will be open on Saturday, May 21, 2016. For more information, call 250.361.0400 or click here.

Emergency Streets and Utilities Services
Emergency streets and utility services are not affected by the holiday and can be contacted day or night at 250.361.0400.

Parking
Parking downtown at City parkades and at on-street meters will be free on Monday, May 23 for Victoria Day (in addition to Sunday, May 22). Pay parking is in effect 24/7 at the City's surface parking lots.

Victoria Day Parade
The Island Farms Victoria Day Parade, Victoria's largest parade, featuring Canadian and American marching bands, performing artists, and a wide variety of community and commercial floats, takes place on Monday, May 23. The parade begins at 9 a.m., and travels along Douglas Street from Finlayson Street to Belleville Street. Residents and commuters should expect delays and may wish to plan alternate routes.

The following road closures will be in effect:

  • Douglas Street will be closed intermittently to vehicle traffic from Tolmie Street to Belleville Street, beginning at 7 a.m.
  • Road openings will be made by police as the parade passes through.
  • All roads will reopen by 12:30 p.m.

No parking will be permitted along the parade route and signs will be posted indicating parking closure times.
