Johnson Street Bridge Project – East Side Road Improvements Start Next Week

Starting Monday, March 20, eastbound drivers and cyclists can expect daytime congestion and delays when travelling across the Johnson Street Bridge, as work commences on new road approaches between the Johnson Street Bridge and Wharf Street.  The work involves completing curb, gutter and paving work, and is expected to last approximately five weeks.  Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Access across the Johnson Street Bridge in both directions will be maintained at all times; however, eastbound traffic will experience delays, particularly as drivers approach the Johnson Street/Wharf Street intersection.  Commuters are advised to consider alternate routes to avoid delays during these times.  Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are also asked to watch for flaggers and comply with signs when travelling through the area.

The road work is being done now to avoid peak traffic periods during summer months, while taking advantage of more favourable weather conditions for paving.
