Archives > Maps and Plans > General Maps Search Page

Map descriptions can be searched by subject, by name/title, and by map number.

Links within the subject and name/title lists point to fuller descriptions within the map number lists.  Full cataloguing information is available in the Archives.

(Please note that links within the name/title list point only to the respective map number lists in which fuller descriptive information will be found, not to the specific items within those lists, so that some scrolling of a list may be necessary to reach the appropriate description.)

In addition, these large lists have been broken down into smaller groupings.

Subject Index:
An alphabetical list of subjects provides links to relevant descriptions.  Since not all map descriptions have subject access points, searching the name/title lists may provide a useful complement.

Name/Title:
An alphabetical list combining authors and titles of maps provides links to relevant descriptions.

(Please note that links within the name/title lists point only to the respective map number lists in which fuller descriptive information will be found, not to the specific items within those lists, so that some scrolling of a list may be necessary to reach the appropriate description.)

Map Number:
Maps are numbered within alphabetical groupings according to their size or format, ranging from the smallest "A" maps through the largest "E" maps to the "F" maps in atlas format.  For conservation reasons, the "E" maps are not generally available for consultation in the reference room.
