Overview
This web site is an extension of our traditional reference services. It offers basic information about who we are and what we do, what we have, and how you can do certain kinds of research. Since staff are not able to answer your questions directly, as they would in our reference room, we would be grateful for any suggestions or comments that might help us improve the site.
Content
Please note that we do not currently have any archival materials available online. This site provides various descriptions of the records, documents, photographs, maps and other materials that are available for viewing in the Archives. Some technical terms used in describing archival materials are defined informally in a glossary.
Navigation
The site is organized (as reflected on the home page) into sections dealing with various topics and areas of research, the source material we have available, this web site, and the Archives itself.
Each page has two links back to the home page, the City crest at the top of the page and the City crest with "Back to Home Page" at the bottom left of the page. Most pages also have a link at the bottom right leading back to their "parent"; all such links are comprised of a City crest and an appropriate phrase. The City crests at the top and bottom left of the home page lead back to the City of Victoria home page.
A site map is also available. This tool provides a directory-like listing of all the pages on the site, which may provide faster navigation back and forth for some kinds of searches. It can also be useful for browsing, like a table of contents.
