Departments > Engineering > Roads & Bridges

The Roads Section is responsible for:

  • Bridge operation and maintenance.
  • A variety of road construction and surfacing processes including road base repairs, crack sealing, milling (grinding), paving, hand patching.
  • Pot hole repairs.
  • Construction of asphalt curbs and asphalt walkways.
  • Snow and ice control.
  • Installation and maintenance of street castings i.e. manhole lids and valve covers.

The Roads Section provides maintenance through partial or total replacement on streets, lanes and pathways. Road and pathway surfaces consist primarily of asphalt with some concrete paver and historical wood block treatments.

We are also responsible for restoration of utility cuts for city projects or utility companies. The section uses 100% recycled asphalt mix from our own small asphalt plant to restore all utility road cuts.

Major repaving projects are done under annual contract in cooperation with City forces.
