Background
The Public Service Centre is designed as a "one stop shopping" service centre within Victoria City Hall. The Centre offers a wide range of City information and conducts financial, registration and application transactions. In addition to providing over the counter services to the public, the Centre serves as a contact point for general telephone, email and fax inquiries to the City.
The Centre is modelled after the British Columbia Government Agents Branch Service Centres located throughout the province. These centres offer a diverse range of provincial government services and transactions that include local government services in many locations (e.g. rural property tax collection).
There were several factors driving the development and implementation of the Public Service Centre:
- The need to improve City communications and public service delivery.
- The need to improve access within City Hall to services offered to the public.
- The need to provide service to the public for less cost.
- Information technology systems that enable staff efficiencies in the provision of a wide range of public services from a single location.
Construction began on the PSC in early 1999 and opened for business in late September, 1999. The PSC is located at grade level east of the main City Hall foyer in the old City Hall. The grade level location adjacent to the main foyer is the most central location and improves access to City services for elderly persons and persons with disabilities.
You can get in contact with the Public Service Centre, as in addition to providing over the counter services to the public, the Centre serves as a contact point for general telephone, email and fax inquiries to the City.
