Late Night Program

A vibrant late night economy is an essential part of our City.

Downtown Victoria hosts Greater Victoria’s primary entertainment district.  The City’s Late Night program helps ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable night out.

Supervised Taxi Stands

Supervised taxi stands on Wharf Street at Bastion Square and by the Strathcona Hotel provide safe and recognized locations for getting a ride home on weekends.

24 Hour Washrooms

The City maintains 24 hour public washrooms on Langley Street by Bastion Square and at Centennial Square. Other locations are served by six portable “peeosk” urinals placed around the downtown on weekend nights. This program is operated in cooperation with Our Place and is sponsored by downtown bar and restaurant owners.

Safer Streets for Everyone

Late Friday and Saturday nights, four VicPD officers patrol the downtown on foot to help ensure everyone has a safe and positive late night experience.

Hot Street Food

Three food vendors operate at street locations near taxi stands, providing tasty, hot food for late night patrons.

Late Night Advisory Committee

Members of several business organizations, downtown residents, police and City Hall meet quarterly to review downtown late night conditions.  Actions are identified to respond to any emerging issues and to improve the late night program.
