Capital Mission

Unleashing economic potential and attracting investment in the Capital City.

Capital Mission 2017: February 22 - 24

For the second year in a row, we are inviting angel & VC investors with an interest in early stage innovative technology companies to visit Victoria!  Invitees will experience first-hand the city’s highly sought after quality of life, including how easy it is to travel to and from Victoria, the vibrancy of our innovative business community and the depth of our local deal flow.   Attendees will be treated to front row access to some of our city’s top academic minds, business leaders, investment opportunities and investors through three days of events designed to foster meaningful business and academic relationships.

The Capital Mission has been strategically aligned with VIATEC’s Discover Tectoria so that mission guests can attend the annual one-day exposition of more than 70 Greater Victoria technology firms and research.

It has also partnered with CIN to offer guests the opportunity to listen to local companies make their pitch and to network with the local investment community.

  • Showcase the innovation coming out of Victoria
  • Connect investors to a curated list of early stage companies and local investment opportunities
  • Connect investors with others in the local investment community to promote the sharing of deal flow and investment knowledge and facilitate co-investment
  • Highlight our human capital/talent from our 3 post-secondary institutions
  • Highlight Victoria’s quality of life – walkability and uniqueness throughout downtown
  • Make the case for investing in Victoria now!

A Capital Mission: 2016

As a result of the first economically driven trade mission to San Francisco, in September 2015, involving a multi-stakeholder “Team Victoria” group that represented many of our economic engines, Mayor Lisa Helps wanted to continue to build and enhance the relationships that were initiated during the mission by creating a reverse mission called, ‘A Capital Mission’. This first mission originally targeted San Francisco/ Bay Area investors, but news spread and the mission resulted in 25 participants that also included investors from Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. 100% of attendees said they would refer this mission to others in their network and that led to the 2nd annual Capital Mission!
