Rezoning Application and Development Permit with Variances Application for 63 Boyd Street
Following a public hearing, Council approved a rezoning application for 63 Boyd Street to create two small lots, and variances related to height and side yard setbacks. Learn more about this application here.
Rezoning Application and Development Permit with Variances Application for 2816 Shelbourne Street
Following a public hearing, Council approved a rezoning application for 2816 Shelbourne Street to allow for the construction of a five-unit townhouse development. Learn more about the application here.
Reconsideration of 1417 May Street Rezoning and Development Permit with Variances
Council rescinded its decision to decline the rezoning application regarding this property and referred this proposal back to staff for more work on design based on the comments made at the public hearing. This matter will then return to Council.
Temporary Use Permit Application for 1120-1126 Hillside Avenue
Following an opportunity for public comment, Council authorized the issuance of a temporary use permit. This permit only allows for a retail furniture store.
2017 Annual Report
Following an opportunity for public comment, Council approved the 2017 Annual Report. The Annual Report highlights achievements over the past year as measured against Council's Strategic Objectives, and includes the City's audited financial statements. View the 2017 Annual Report here.
Topaz Park Improvement Plan
Council approved the Park Improvement Plan for Topaz Park. This 10-year plan includes: improved sports fields and recreational facilities and a greater diversity of park activities, including a new skateboard park, bike skills park, and tennis and pickleball courts. Council also directed staff to report back at the next quarterly update about expediting the detailed design for Phase 1 and Phase 2 for completion as soon as possible, and indicate to Council what elements of the 2018 workplan would not be completed because of this. Implementation of Summit Park Management Plan: McNair Trail
Council approved an allocation in the 2019 draft Financial Plan for improvements to the McNair Trail to Summit Park, consistent with the implementation timeline adopted in the Summit Park Management Plan.
Protection of Ecologically and Culturally Significant Areas
Council directed staff to prepare an amendment to the Parks Regulation Bylaw to add Coffin Island to the areas covered in section 16A of the bylaw. Staff are also to work with the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations on potential signage relating to ecologically and culturally significant areas within the municipal parks and greenspace system in the City of Victoria. Staff are requested to report back to Council following advice from the City Family on potential additional tools to increase protection for ecologically and culturally significant areas within the municipal parks and greenspace system.
Bastion Square Market Licence Renewal
Council approved renewing the operating agreement for the Bastion Square Public Market for three years. The Bastion Square Market is an important venue for 55 local artists and vendors.
Funding for Extended Hours for Our Place
Council approved $25,000 in funding to partner with BC Housing and Island Health to increase services for Our Place to address gaps in the spring/summer opening hours. The new spring and summer operating hours will more closely align with those of other service providers. These extra hours of operation will help meet the needs of individuals seeking services and support.
Support for Bid to Host 55+ B.C. Games in 2020, 2021 or 2022
Council directed staff to work with the Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission to apply for the right to host the 2020, 2021 or 2022 55+ B.C. Games. Council also approved in-kind support of up to $55,000 should the bid be successful, with funds from the budget surplus for the year prior to hosting the Games.
Vehicle for Hire Bylaw for Rickshaws
Council directed staff to amend Section 17 (2) in the Vehicles for Hire Bylaw to increase the maximum capacity for rickshaws from two persons to three adults and one child, or two adults and two children.
