Youth Economic Roundtable

Youth Economic Roundtable

Facilitated by Mayor Lisa Helps on November 25 at City Hall, this roundtable asked youth what the City can do better to support and help prepare youth for the economy of the future.

According to a recent report, “Humans Wanted: How Canadian Youth Can Thrive in an Age of Disruption” there will be 2.5 million more jobs created in Canada over the next five years; a technology revolution always results in more jobs not less. Youth are well-positioned to lead in this new economy.

Key questions for discussion included:
  1. What is the City currently doing well to support youth?
  2. What can the City do better to support youth? (Please be as specific as possible)
  3. What challenges are youth facing in becoming future ready?
  4. Do youth have ambitions to be global influencers? If so, tell us more.
  5. How can the City assist youth to be more future ready and globally fluent?
  6. What is one word you’d use to describe Victoria today? What is one word you’d like to be able to use to describe Victoria 20 years from today?
  7. What else do you want to tell us?
