Accessibility Working Group

In 2015, the Accessibility Working Group was established to support accessibility and inclusion in the City of Victoria.

Purpose

The Accessibility Working Group was established to:

  • identify barriers for persons with disabilities created by current City of Victoria infrastructure
  • make recommendations as to how to remove these barriers
  • establish criteria by which barrier removal can be prioritized and the allocating of funding can be determined, and
  • work with City of Victoria staff to draft policies and procedures to prevent the creation of barriers in the future

The City of Victoria gratefully acknowledges the contributions, dedication, and hard work of the Accessibility Working Group members who have given selflessly to help achieve a more inclusive Victoria.

Accessibility Framework, Policy and Action Plan

The work of the Accessibility Working Group's seven-member volunteer team has helped inform the City's new Accessibility Framework, Accessibility and Inclusion Policy and accompanying Short-Term Action Plan, which were adopted by Council on October 8, 2020. Learn more

Next Steps

With the Accessibility Framework now adopted, the City will transition to an interim Accessibility Advisory Committee, which will serve a one-year term and include up to two returning members of the Accessibility Working Group to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer.

Information on recruitment and the Accessibility Advisory Committee's Terms of Reference will be available soon.
