Greater Victoria Public Library Board

The Greater Victoria Public Library Board serves 10 municipalities in the Greater Victoria area. 

Recruitment

Thank you to all those who applied to serve on the Greater Victoria Public Library Board. Recruitment is now closed. The citizen appointee will be contacted in early December. 

The Greater Victoria Public Library Board (GVPL Board) provides joint management, maintenance, improvement, operation and control of library branches. The Library has 12 locations in the Greater Victoria Area including a Central Library in the heart of downtown Victoria and the sxʷeŋxʷəŋ təŋəxʷ James Bay Branch.

Membership

The GVPL Board consists of 19 members, including one Council member and four citizen appointees from the City of Victoria. Citizen appointees serve two-year terms to a maximum of four consecutive terms (or eight consecutive years).

The City of Victoria Council-appointed members of the Greater Victoria Public Library Board include: 

  1. Deborah Begoray
  2. Ramesh Ranjan
  3. Shahira Khair

Councillor Susan Kim is the current Council Liaison to the Greater Victoria Public Library Board and is serving a two-year term (December 2022 - December 2024). 

Time Commitment 

Board meetings are held once a month (on a Tuesday) at the Central Branch in the Community Meeting Room at noon. The Central Branch is located at 735 Broughton Street. The Board does not meet in July and August.
