Temporary Road Closures for Xe xe Smun’ eem- Victoria Orange Shirt Day Ceremony September 30

To accommodate the Xe xe Smun’ eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters Ceremony in Centennial Square, the following roads will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic on Thursday, September 30 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.:

  • Douglas Street between Fisgard Street and Pandora Avenue
  • Pandora Avenue between Douglas Street and Government Street

Signs will be posted. Vehicles parked in the closed area will be towed.

Fisgard Street will remain open in both directions. Pedestrian and cyclist access to Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue will be maintained during the temporary closure.

BC Transit will reroute buses. Transit users should look for instructions from BC Transit for any temporary bus stop closures or relocations.

Parking will be free at the City’s five parkades and at on-street meters on Thursday, September 30 for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which coincides with Orange Shirt Day.

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for Indigenous Peoples, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. It provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and to honour Indigenous survivors, their families and communities.

The Xe xe Smun’ eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters Ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 30 from noon – 2:30 p.m. in Centennial Square and will be live streamed on the City’s Facebook page
