Xe xe Smun eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day Flag and Canada Flag at Half-Mast at Victoria City Hall Until June 8
May 31, 2021
Today, residential school survivor Eddy Charlie and friend Kristin Spray were joined by Mayor Lisa Helps, Councillor Alto and Councillor Thornton-Joe to lower the Xe xe Smun eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day flag at Victoria City Hall.
The flag will fly at half-mast to honour the 215 children who died at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School and whose bodies were recently found in an unmarked grave.
We acknowledge the deep grief of families from the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Nation and families from the other Nations whose children attended the school and who never returned home.
Eddy Charlie and Kristin Spray are the organizers of the annual Xe xe Smun eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters event in Victoria on September 30.
The Xe xe Smun eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day flag, along with the Canada flag, will remain lowered until June 8 for a total of 215 hours, one hour for each child who died.Go to Top
