Apply Now for a Festival Investment Grant for 2023
November 25, 2022
The City of Victoria is now accepting applications for the Festival Investment Grant (FIG) program to support community celebrations and festivals happening in 2023. New this year is a funding stream to support community-led Canada Day celebrations.
The application deadline is Friday, December 30, 2022 at 4 p.m.
Festival Investment Grant Details
A total budget of $400,000 will be made available to fund up to 25 per cent of the overall operating costs of a festival or celebration in Victoria. $325,000 will be available in general FIG funding and $75,000 will be available in the Canada Day stream. Last year the City funded 41 festivals and celebrations.
The Festival Investment Grant is intended to nurture outdoor festivals and celebrations held within the city, facilitate their growth and ensure their continued success. The financial support helps organizations with the development of new festivals and celebrations or to improve or expand existing events.
The pilot Canada Day grant stream will provide opportunities for a wide range of community-led programming on Canada Day in Victoria’s neighbourhoods and cultural communities. Not-for-profit organizations can apply for up to $50,000 for a large scale community-wide celebration and $25,000 will be available for distribution among several smaller scale community celebrations.
The City is applying to Heritage Canada for additional Canada Day funding, which could be available to supplement funding for the larger community-wide celebration. Not-for profits are encouraged to reach out to corporate sponsors to further supplement the overall production costs. In 2023, the City of Victoria will continue to directly fund and host the Canoe Protocol and the fireworks on Canada Day.
