Heritage Conservation Area
Heritage - Fairfield
In the early stages of engagement on the Fairfield and Gonzales Neighbourhood Plans, we heard a lot of feedback about the importance of preserving the historic character of the neighbourhoods. The idea of creating Heritage Conservation Areas was explored in certain areas of Fairfield that were identified by the community and heritage assessment as having historic significance. While there was a high level of neighbourhood support for these initiatives, support from property owners in those areas was mixed. As a result, Council directed staff in September 2017 not to pursue Heritage Conservation Areas as part of the Fairfield neighbourhood planning process. The neighbourhood plan will identify potential candidate areas for future consideration if there is community interest and leadership.
The neighbourhood plans include other strategies for preservation of heritage.
Below is a summary of engagement on Heritage Conservation Areas in Fairfield.
Two workshops were held with property owners in the identified areas for Heritage Conservation.
