Carla has published five books of poetry and two memoirs, the most recent of which is Mennonite Valley Girl: A Wayward Coming of Age (Greystone Books, 2021). After fifteen years of teaching in the University of Victoria’s Department of Writing, Carla now works as an editor and manuscript consultant, and leads private writing classes for pure fun. She served as Victoria’s inaugural poet laureate from 2006 to 2008.

Linda Rogers

Linda chose poetry because, as the child of a lawyer, she needed an art form to arrange words and make her case(s). The poet laureate job was her platform to argue for inclusivity. She is the current winner of the Gwendolyn MacEwen Poetry Award and the Carter Vanderbilt Cooper Short Fiction Prize. During the pandemic, she's been working on a collection of short fiction, She's Back! Seven Angels, Seven Trumpets and a collection of women's art and writing called Mother the Verb, The Swan Sister Treasure Book. Linda Rogers was City of Victoria Poet Laureate from 2012 to 2014.

Yvonne Blomer

Yvonne is an award-winning travel writer and poet. The Last Show on Earth, her fifth book, came out with Caitlin Press in 2022. Yvonne’s poetry books include As if a Raven (Palimpsest Press, 2015) and the anthologies Refugium: Poems for the Pacific and Sweet Water: Poems for the Watersheds (Caitlin Press, 2017 and 2021). Sugar Ride: Cycling from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur her travel memoir exploring body, time and travel was released in 2017 with Palimpsest Press. Yvonne lives on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən people. She was City of Victoria Poet Laureate from 2015 to 2018.

Poetry at the Cathedral is a joint presentation of Christ Church Cathedral, the Greater Victoria Public Library, and the City of Victoria.

An initiative of the League of Canadian Poets, National Poetry Month is now in its twenty-fourth year. In schools, libraries, art galleries, cafés, churches, and parks, poets nationwide give readings, deliver talks, lead workshops, and participate in panel discussions to sustain the reading and writing of poetry among people young and old and from all walks of life.

John Barton would like to thank the staff of Christ Church Cathedral, the Greater Victoria Public Library through the office of the chief librarian, and Engagement staff and the Arts, Culture, and Events staff at the City of Victoria for their invaluable support.
