Old Cemeteries Society
A booklet chronicling daily life and events in Victoria in 1862, featuring biographies of selected people who arrived that year.

Celebrating Victoria on the Banks of the Mainstream
Dvora Levin
This unique book of poetry reflects on the history of the city and is written by members of the City's marginalized community and published by Dvora Levin. Celebrating Victoria on the Banks of the Mainstream is a project arising from weekly poetry writing workshops, let by local poet Dvora Levin at Rock Bay Landing Shelter, Peers Victoria Resource Society, and now, the Salvation Army and the Sandi Merriman House. This project grew out of the recent book, Voice from the Edge (published by Victoria's Ekstasis Editions, printed by Island Blue), along with a CD of the poets reading their works.

Community Heritage Display

This travelling heritage display for community and neighbourhood events features archival photos and heritage information about specific neighbourhoods. Look for the display at a community event near you.

Esquimalt Nations and Songhees Nations Projects
Funding has been made available to the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations to support community-based projects during Victoria 150.

"Hospital Francais" Plaque Unveiling
L'Association Historique Francophone de Victoria
A permanent panel or plaque commemorating French hospital history in Victoria will be created for Royal Jubilee Hospital.

This Old House, Volume 1: Fernwood and Victoria West, 2nd Edition
Victorian Heritage Foundation
This Old House, Volume 1: Fernwood and Victoria West was first published in 2004. The second edition includes all heritage buildings added to the Heritage Register since 2004. It is also being substantially updated with additional research and newly-discovered archival photos.

Victoria 150th Historical Display
Victoria Lodge No. 1, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Stop by to see the historical window display at the Victoria Lodge No. 1, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The display will feature photographs and other material relating to the historical Odd Fellows Hall, which dates from 1879, and about the block of Douglas Street where it is located. The first Odd Fellows Lodge in Victoria was founded in 1864. Odd Fellows Hall is the venue for "Symposium: 1862," a gathering of historians and educators who will present on a wide range of subjects pertaining to the incorporation year of the City of Victoria.

Victoria Amateur Swimming Club 100th Anniversary Launch
Victoria Amateur Swimming Club
This fall, the Victoria Amateur Swimming Club (VASC) will be kick starting the celebrations for its 100th year as a sports club in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the City of Victoria. VASC will be launching the anniversary celebration with an invitation to all alumni and families to participate in a swimming event with local champions and school children. Come and celebrate the sport of swimming, our local swimming heroes, and the coaches that guide them.

Voices of the Elders
Mark Hellman, Victoria High School
This is the creation of a living, oral history of the community, including the compilation and editing of materials for publication, as Victoria High School students - led by storyteller, songwriter, and educator Mark Hellman - work with community elders to gather their stories and create a permanent record of their voices and memories.

* Canada Post Commemorative Envelope
City of Victoria
The City of Victoria was successful in its request to Canada Post to include the 150th Anniversary in Canada Post's commemorative envelopes program in 2012. Printed in limited quantities, these commemorative envelopes feature a unique pictorial postmark to complement the theme. The postcard will be unveiled at the Victoria 150 public ceremony on August 2.

Victoria's history comes to life! Look for this exciting, interactive performance troupe of giant puppets, stilt walkers and acrobats at summer events in Victoria. Meet Woo and Emily, Amor de Cosmos and many other dazzling, larger-than-life characters in person. Created by Puente Theatre and Merlin's Sun.  

* Victoria 150 Public Art Project
City of Victoria
The City of Victoria is holding a three-stage, national public art competition to create public artwork(s) that commemorate Victoria's 150th anniversary. The winner will be announced at the beginning of June with installation taking place by the end of December 2012.

* Victoria City Hall Commemorative Book
Victoria Civic Heritage Trust
This high-quality commemorative book features the historic architecture and site development of Victoria's City Hall to celebrate the City of Victoria's 150th anniversary. Told through a combination of well-researched writing, archival and present day photographs, this is the fascinating story of the development of the Victoria City Hall complex, which is situated on an entire city-block in the heart of downtown Victoria.
