Note to residents regarding the recycling of film plastic and foam packaging:

The majority of recyclable materials in BC are regulated under provincial legislation (BC Recycling Regulation) through Recycle BC ,which makes producers responsible for the end-of-life management of their products and packaging. There have recently been changes to operations at local Bottle Depots and their ability to accept non-deposit recyclable material through the Recycle BC program. A list of alternative depots in the region can be found here Plastic Film and Foam Packaging Recycling Locations. Additionally, the CRD does not charge residents for dropping off recyclable materials including plastic film and foam packaging at the Hartland depot and more than 80 items are accepted (including all blue box materials).  For Hartland’s hours and a list of items accepted in the public drop off area, click here.

Victoria's downtown streets now have options for recycling and organics disposal!

Have you see our new Zero Waste Stations around town? The placement and design of these fully colour-coded bins is informed by research and best practice in waste management. Three bins in each of our 25 stations represent three waste streams: green for organics, blue for recyclables and black for garbage. The City of Victoria is part of a group of leading communities adopting this consistent design standard. Since installation, the City has diverted an average of 400 kg of organics, and 300 kg or recyclables per month from landfill.
