Fairfield Neighbourhood Plan

An updated Draft Fairfield Neighbourhood Plan is coming soon.

Thank you to the roughly 400 people who attended the Cook Street Village storefront in early August, 2018 to find out more about Gentle Density and to look at future plans for the Village.

In addition, over 300 people took the Fairfield Gentle Density survey. The results of these consultations can be found here {link to engagement summaries}.

Thank you to the two steering committees that led this initiative. These committed residents and business owners worked tirelessly with the City to develop the information and engage with the community

Next Steps:

A report was presented to Council on September 20th (see item F.5) outlining recommended changes to the Draft Fairfield Neighbourhood Plan. These changes were based on the results of consultation and recommendations from two steering committees. Council directed staff to bring forward a revised Fairfield Neighbourhood Plan, and associated design guidelines and amendments to the Official Community Plan, for Council’s consideration prior to the next phase of public engagement. Council also directed that staff further engage with neighbourhood stakeholders regarding Fairfield Plaza policies. A draft plan with revised policies for Cook Street Village, infill housing opportunities, and Fairfield Plaza policies will be brought to Council in April, for further direction on the next round of engagement.

See the Council Report from September 20th, 2018:

Gentle Density

Gentle Density” is a strategy for responding to changing conditions and growth by supporting a variety of housing forms that absorb growth and change while minimizing their impacts.

We want to hear what you think about how different housing types fit into Fairfield. The Gentle Density Survey provides information about this growth model and links to videos made by your neighbours to help explain.

Note: The survey closes on Sunday, August 19 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Neighbourhood Plan Update ~ March 2018

On Thursday, March 15, City Council approved motions from a Council workshop on the draft Fairfield Neighbourhood Plan (held on February 22 and March 1, 2018). The motions provide direction to staff on changes to the plan content and further engagement with the neighbourhood. Review the motions here.

Based on Council direction, we will be engaging further on Cook Street Village, Ross Bay Village (Fairfield Plaza) and the gentle density model. Check back here for updates on next steps or sign-up to receive email updates on the plan at engage@victoria.ca.
