Make a Plan

Having an emergency plan and methods in place to reconnect with family members are incredibly important after an emergency. We recommend establishing a meeting location and an out of province contact person as two key ways to reconnect with loved ones when traditional communications methods aren't functioning.

Text messages may still work when phone lines are down, so send one just in case it goes through.

Establish a Meeting Area

By establishing a meeting area, your loved ones have a predetermined location that they can go to reconnect after a major emergency.

Out of Province Contact Person

An out of province contact person is useful because local phone lines may be down or busy after a large-scale emergency, but long distance lines may still work. Each family member can call and check in with this contact, who will spread the message about who has checked in and who has not.
