BC Building Code Changes Come into Effect December 20
November 30, 2012
A reminder to all property owners, contractors and developers applying for building permits in the coming weeks, that the Province of BC's new Building Code comes into effect December 20, 2012.
All complete permit applications received by December 19, 2012 will be reviewed under the current 2006 Code, and permits applied for on or after December 20 will be reviewed under the new code.
Permit applications must be complete and submitted before December 20 to qualify under the 2006 code.
The new BC Building Code introduces over 800 changes to building permit and plumbing permit requirements. The new code includes changes that encourage energy efficiency and sustainable, green, healthy buildings. It also includes more stringent seismic design requirements for houses, and new requirements for assisted living care housing.
Over 4,000 permits are issued within the City of Victoria each year. The City of Victoria's Permits and Inspections Office is currently at a temporary location at 2 - 1689 Government Street (corner of Government and Fisgard) during the City Hall renovations.
