Cook Street Playground at Beacon Hill Park Wins Success by 6 Award

Cook Street Playground at Beacon Hill Park has been awarded the Success by 6 Early Years Award for Favourite Park/Playground for 2013!
From February 11 to March 29, 2013, Greater Victoria community members were invited to complete an online survey and vote for their favourite parks and playgrounds, family-friendly local businesses, community services, child care, preschool and parenting programs, and family-friendly employers. Approximately one hectare in size, the Cook Street Playground is located between Cook Street and Nursery Road, across from the Victoria Lawn Bowling Club. The playground provides play and picnic opportunities for nearby residents and draws visitors from around the region. In 2012, the City of Victoria upgraded the aging play equipment to meet national safety standards, to better meet the needs of the community, and to celebrate Victoria's 150th anniversary. Success by 6 is an early childhood development initiative dedicated to providing all children with a good start in life. It helps to ensure that children ages 0 to 6 develop the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical skills they need.
Success By 6 builds and enhances community through engaging citizens in early childhood development, and funding programs that strengthen services for young children and their families. Funded programs include literacy, nutrition, children's play, parenting and family skills development. Prevention-focused, research-informed and community-based, Success By 6 envisions a community where all children are valued, respected, nurtured, loved, and given the opportunity to develop to their full potential as creative, caring, competent and responsible adults.
