Intersection Upgrades at Bay and Douglas Streets Begin Tomorrow

Tomorrow, City crews will begin a seven week intersection improvement project at Bay and Douglas streets, improving motorist safety and accessibility for pedestrians.

Signal lights and underground electrical systems will be upgraded along with underground stormwater catch basins to improve drainage and prevent flooding. The sidewalks and wheelchair ramps will also be upgraded to improve accessibility for pedestrians.

Work will be scheduled to occur outside of the morning and afternoon commute times; however motorists are encouraged to use Government and Blanshard Streets to avoid delays.

The capital investment for this project is $160,000 including up to $62,000 in grant funding contributed by the ICBC Road Improvement Program. In 2014, the City of Victoria will invest $6.4 million in transportation infrastructure, including sidewalks, bike lanes, crosswalks and paving.
