Relocation of Hotel Entrance to Occur on West Side of Johnson Street Bridge

This week crews will begin work to create a new vehicle entrance to the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort off Esquimalt Road. This work is happening prior to closing the current hotel entrance off the Johnson Street Bridge. The work is part of the bridge replacement project and advances work planned for 2015.

A new left-hand turn into the hotel will be created just west of the Johnson Street Bridge. The new access road will be for vehicles arriving from downtown. Bus traffic, vehicles travelling east and exiting the hotel parking lot will use Tyee Road. The two westbound lanes off the bridge will remain in place.

During the construction period, the E&N Trail connection from Tyee Road to the bridge will be closed to all pedestrians and eastbound cyclists. Pedestrian access to the bridge will be maintained along the Esquimalt Road sidewalk and Westsong Walkway.

Vehicle and cyclist access will be maintained along Esquimalt Road. The existing hotel entrance will remain open to westbound vehicles and cyclists until the new hotel entrance is in place.

Eventually, the new hotel entrance will connect with a new four-way signalled intersection at Harbour and Esquimalt Roads connecting to the new Johnson Street Bridge. Once the new intersection is complete and the bridge is open, there will be a two-way access to the hotel and future waterfront green space.

Construction of the new hotel entrance will take four weeks. Once the new left-hand turn is open to traffic, the existing hotel entrance will close.

Upgrades and road realignments will continue at the intersection of Esquimalt and Harbour Roads from May through August. Harbour Road is being widened and realigned with the addition of new sidewalks and lights in preparation for connecting with the new Johnson Street Bridge.
