Canadian Flag to be Flown at Half-Mast for Firefighters' National Memorial Day on Sunday

To mark Sunday, September 9, 2018 as Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, the Canadian flag at City Hall will be flown at half-mast today from sunset to sunrise on Monday, September 10.

This national memorial day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to remember firefighters who have lost their lives while on the job. The Canadian flag at the BC Legislative Building in Victoria and on all British Columbia government buildings and establishments across the province will also be flown at half-mast.

Retired Victoria Fire Chief Doug Angrove who passed away in 2017, will have his name added to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Ottawa. A ceremony will be held at the memorial on Sunday morning with his family in attendance. (Photo courtesy of Canadian Fallen Firefighters' Foundation.)
