Province's "Alert Ready" Test is Today at 1:55pm

Province's "Alert Ready" Test Today

Emergency Management BC will test its Alert Ready system today at 1:55 p.m. It will be the second time that the Province has tested its Alert Ready system, which automatically transmits an alert to mobile phones, televisions and radios.

The Province's Alert Ready system can be used to notify the public of a potential tsunami in BC. The RCMP can also use Alert Ready to send out an AMBER alert for a missing child. Additional testing will be scheduled as the system is expanded to include other types of hazards.

Alert Ready is part of a Canada-wide system that enables the Provincial government to issue public safety alerts through major television and radio broadcasters and compatible wireless devices.

Messages delivered through BC’s emergency alerting system will complement, not replace, existing notification methods via social media, or other emergency warning systems provided by municipal governments, First Nations and other agencies.
