RBC Banking Error Affecting Some Property Taxpayers
June 29, 2018
The City of Victoria has been informed that RBC has made a banking error which has affected a number of people who paid for their property taxes through post-dated cheques. The bank cashed some post-dated cheques in advance of the property tax due date July 3.
This is not a City error and RBC has apologized and taken full responsibility. We are working diligently with RBC and coordinating with them as they work to resolve this.
RBC sincerely regrets any impact this may be having on those affected. RBC will reverse bank service charges, fees and overdraft interest if applicable, and they will reimburse other Canadian financial institutions for banking charges their clients may have incurred.
Those impacted will not have to pay late tax penalties that may occur as a direct result of this issue.
In the meantime, people are encouraged to contact their financial institution directly for assistance or call RBC at 1.800.769.2511.Go to Top
