Victoria City Hall, Council Chambers
(Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue)

You’re invited to attend the annual City of Victoria New Year’s Day Levée on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 10 a.m. – noon at Victoria City Hall. Enjoy complimentary refreshments by Chef David Roger of Songhees Seafood & Steam and musical entertainment performed by Hal Fraser on piano. An RSVP is not required.

The New Year’s Day Levée is a longstanding tradition at the City of Victoria and provides the community an opportunity to meet members of City Council and celebrate the arrival of the New Year. View the poster [PDF - 2 MB].

The word “levee” is derived from the French verb “lever” which means to rise. During the rule of King Louis XIV (1643 – 1715), ristocrats would meet with guests in the morning shortly after rising. By the 18th century, Great Britain and Ireland had made the Levée a formal Court reception for men, hosted by the Sovereign or his/her representative just before or after noon.

Reminder: Parking is free at City parkades and at on-street meters on New Year's Day.
