BC Fallen Fire Fighters' Memorial is Monday, March 4

On Monday, March 4, the BC Fallen Fire Fighters’ Memorial service in Victoria will honour 15 International Association of Fire Fighter (IAFF) members who died in the Line of Duty over the past two years.

Approximately 500 uniformed fire fighters from across British Columbia will gather to commemorate these fire fighters who gave their lives in service to their citizens and communities.

On Monday at 11:25 a.m., fire fighters will march from the Black Ball Ferry Line terminal parking lot on Belleville Street to Government and Superior Streets, arriving at the rear of the BC Parliament Buildings.

The memorial service will take place from approximately noon - 1 p.m., followed by the parade and pipe band marching onto Menzies Street. The pipe band will include members from different Locals of the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Association. The public is welcome to attend.

Members of the Victoria Fire Department will participate. Retired Victoria Fire Chief Richard Couch, who passed away last June, will be recognized at the service with his family in attendance.

Road Closures
The following roads will be closed from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to accommodate the event:

  • 400 and 500 blocks of Belleville Street
  • 600 block of Government Street
  • 500 block of Superior Street
  • 400, 500 and 600 blocks of Menzies Street

Roads will be re-opened by Police after the dispersal of the marching parade.
