The west sidewalk on Government Street, between Johnson Street and Pandora Avenue, is now open to pedestrians. Fire and Engineering crews continue their work at the site.
City Hall's Public Service Centre, Development Services, and Permits and Inspections counters are OPEN TODAY (May 9).
The May 9 Committee of the Whole (9 a.m.) and Council Meetings (6:30 p.m.) will be held at the CRD building in the 6th floor Boardroom at 625 Fisgard Street. Watch the webcasts live.
City Hall will fully re-open on Friday, May 10.

Although contained, the fire at the former Plaza Hotel is still burning. An additional excavator has been brought in to assist in fire suppression and the public is advised to avoid the area.
Government Street between Johnson and Pandora remains closed until further notice. Please use alternate routes.

The Council meeting and Committee of the Whole meeting will be moved to the CRD 6th floor Boardroom, 625 Fisgard for May 9. The webcast will continue. Free childminding will be postponed until the May 23 Council meeting.

Government Street from Pandora Avenue to Fisgard Street is open. Cars can turn right from Government Street onto Pandora Avenue.

After a very well-coordinated response, Victoria Fire crews have successfully extinguished all major hot spots and the fire at the corner of Pandora Avenue and Government Street is no longer a threat to neighbouring structures. Crews will remain on scene overnight to monitor and ensure no active fire.
Pandora Avenue (west of Douglas Street) and Government Street between Johnson Street and Fisgard Street remain closed until further notice. Be advised to plan alternate routes.

Excavators are beginning a controlled demolition of parts of the building to assist with putting out the fire.

Due to poor air quality and lack of access as roads are closed due to the fire at the Plaza Hotel (Government and Pandora) Victoria City Hall is CLOSED for the day.

The Victoria Fire Department is working to extinguish a major structural fire at the Plaza Hotel at Government and Pandora.
Crews are working to protect the adjoining structure at 1411 Government Street.
Surrounding roads are closed. Please avoid coming downtown, if possible.
The Johnson Street Bridge is congested. Please Take Bay St Bridge.
The air quality downtown is poor at this time. Please stay a safe distance away.
