Firefighters' National Memorial Day is September 12
September 10, 2021
To mark Firefighters’ National Memorial Day on Sunday, September 12, the Canadian flag at City Hall will be lowered to half-mast. This national memorial day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to remember firefighters who have lost their lives while on the job.
In 2019, the Victoria Fire Department dedicated a new Memorial Fire Bell. This bell is rung in a special ceremony to honour firefighters who have lost their life in the line of duty.
We recognize the passing of former Victoria Fire Department members retired Captain Joe Patterson, Master Mechanic Bob Hamilton, Assistant Chief Don Irish, former Victoria Fire Chief and City Councillor Eric Simmons, former Victoria Fire Chief Richard A. Couch, former Victoria Fire Chief Doug Angrove and thank all of the firefighters in the Victoria Fire Department and beyond for all you do to ensure property and neighbourhoods are kept safe.
