UPDATE: Gas Leak at Fort and Ormond Resolved

The gas leak has now been resolved and residents in the impacted area are returning to their homes. Please avoid Fort Street on your afternoon commute and expect delays in that area for the next hour. A cancellation VicAlert has been issued.

FortisBC and City staff continue to respond to and monitor the gas leak at Fort and Ormond Streets. Traffic diversions have been set up. The impacted area has been reduced from a 500 to 250-metre radius. Please avoid the area on your commute home today.

Central Middle School is directing student pick-up locations as being along Fernwood and Yates and to avoid Fort Street. Children on foot are being advised not to use Fort if walking towards town.
Gas Leak at Fort and Ormond
Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2 p.m.
First Responders are currently on scene at Fort and Ormond for a gas leak.
They will be conducting door to door evacuations for those in the impacted area. All others are asked to avoid the area within 500 metres radius of Fort/Ormond. Please see map below.
Please avoid the area of Fort/Ormond. Those in the area who have not been contacted by first responders should remain indoors. If anyone smells the scent of rotten eggs move to fresh air and phone 911.
A Vic-Alert has gone out to those in the area. A second Vic-Alert will be sent out with an update when the gas leak has been contained.
